Water Taxi

Bay Excursions offers water taxi services when you need it, where you need it. Rather than following a set daily schedule we are always on call and available. Some destinations, however, can be reached only during certain tides and must be scheduled accordingly...the tide waits for no one, nor does it hurry! Kachemak Bay tides can vary as much as 28 feet between the high and low tides, so one must plan ahead. Water taxi rPhoto dock and hikersates vary depending on the number of people in your party and your destination. Basic round trip transportation to most places in the state park are $70 per person. There is an added $4 charge per person for transportation to Kachemak Bay State Park. Children ages two to 12 are $45 each. One-way trips are $35 per person. Add $10 to the basic price for transportation to Tutka Bay Sea Star Cabin. Prices to Bear Cove will be $85 per person. Peterson Bay and the community of Halibut Cove are $60 per person. The Torega is licensed for 18 passengers and the Soleci is licensed for six. We will be happy to make special arrangements and rate discounts for larger parties.

Custom Wildlife and Birding Tours

Lifelong Alaskan and local naturalist, Captain Karl Stoltzfus provides guided natural history tours of the Kachemak Bay area. He designs custom tours to meet your interests and time frame. Only a limited number of tours are available each day, so advanced bookings are recommended. A standard sightseeing tour runs twPhoto Gull Islando hours and costs $55 per person. Rates for a three hour birding tour are $70 per person. Reduced rates for children 12 and under. The cost per person depends on the duration of the tour. Longer or shorter tours and special rates can be arranged for larger parties. Birding trips are Karl's specialty and the rates depend on the total length. We also offer wildlife viewing, photography, and scenic tours.

Cabin RentalPhoto Timber Cabin and beach

Carefully constructed with local labor and beetle killed spruce, our wilderness cabin offers the perfect secluded destination after a long hike in the State Park or a day of paddling on Kachemak Bay. Timbers is conveniently located right on the trail system near the Halibut Creek Trailhead and about two hours from the Saddle Trail. With double beds to sleep six people comfortably, it has a furnished kitchenette and handy wood stove. It rents for $100 per night and bedding is available if you don't have sleeping bags. Our family loves to spend time at Timbers, and we think you will too.

Kayak Rentals

Kayaks rent for $45 per day for the singles and $65 per day for doubles. Reduced fees are available when renting multiple days.

How to Find Bay Excursions on the Homer Spit

The Torega and Soleci docks to the right of ramp three in the Homer Boat Harbor at the end of the Homer Spit. See the map below or click here for a printable map and more specific directions. Plan to board the boat at the harbor as indicated on the map, unless you make other arrangements. The office for Bay Excursions consists of Karl and his trusty cell phone, wherever they may be! You can make trip arrangements and book directly with him at (907)235-7525.
