During the early homestead days much of the day was devoted to just living. The first winter, living was in tents with a 16 insulated octagon tent for a cook tent which served as Harry and Doris Schade's quarters as well. Everyone else had a surplus 8 x 10 bedroom tent of their own. Toilet facilities were outside (with a fox fur toilet seat) and a spring near by supplied the water.
Homesteading left lots of time to talk with neighbors as they were few and far between. Here, Mr. Hubbard rode over horseback to visit with Harry Schade on a sunny afternoon.
