The first two pieces of equipment we purchased was a small crawler and a sawmill. We started cutting trees and sawing them into house logs and lumber to build with. It was a slow process but with no road and little money it proved to be the best way. Here, a neighbor , Bill Sheldon and my dad, Harry Schade are working the mill. It supplied building material for most of the neighbors during the early days.

Finally, the first prove up cabin was built. The cabin provided much better protection from the winter snow and cold. The 16 x 24 one and a half story provided quarters for my family for many years and is still occupied by our daughter, Faith, and her family 40 years later.
