During the 2000 season our anglers landed many fish over 100 pounds and 200 our and our biggest fish in 2000 was 407 pounds caught on F/V Fishbuster with captain Norm Sterb and Chan Park deckhand. it measured 89 1/2 inches witn No Derby ticket. Peak season for halibut in the Homer area waters is from May to September. The only month officially closed for sport fishing halibut, is January. If you're interested in a combo Halibut/Salmon trip May through mid July is best for halibut combined with king salmon, and mid July through August is best for halibut combined with silver salmon.
