Flightseeing in the Travel Air S-6000B

We have operated Kachemak Air Service, Inc., in Homer, Alaska since 1967 and we use a de Havilland Beaver and Otter on floats for our regular service. The Travel Air came from Johnson Flying Service in Montana where it was used to drop "smoke jumpers" and to carry passengers into the back country. We bought it in 1969 and used it on floats and wheels for passengers and freight until 1976 when we bought the Otter and placed the Travel Air in storage.

We recently completed a three-year restoration of the Travel Air and formed Kachemak Bay Flying Service, Inc. We have flown the Travel Air in California during the winter months, doing sightseeing trips and champagne flights to the wine country. The Travel Air is a unique and exceptional vintage aircraft, especially configured as a floatplane. In fact it is the only Travel Air of this model on floats.

Travel Air biplanes are familiar to most vintage aircraft enthusiasts. The Travel Air 6000, called by the factory the "Limousine of the Air", was built in more limited quantities. It was used for executive transport and by the fledgling airlines, including Delta and Braniff. Travel Air 6000s provided air service to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula with Woodley Airways.

Bill de Creeft has flown more than 19,000 hours, most of it in Alaska in Kachemak Air seaplanes.
We invite you to join us for a unique flight into Alaska's past and over its timeless scenery.

We think you will see why so many people have come to love the Travel Air with its big mahogany framed picture windows, wicker seats and luxurious broadcloth interior.

We offer modern safety and classic elegance, over a beautiful state.
