Some of the most beautiful exotic
collectable ducks can be found in our hunting areas. The ducks range in variety of
Harlequins, Scaups, Scoters, Eiders, Oldsquaws, Buffleheads, Goldeneyes, Mallards,
Gadwalls, and Brants. The most abundant of these ducks are the Harlequins, Oldsquaws,
Scoters, Buffleheads, and the Goldeneyes.
Most of the hunting is pass shooting as well as jump shooting. Steel shot is required by law and we recommend a 12 gauge with a modified choke be used. Shells should be #2 steel shot with #1's being secondary choice. It is not uncommon to shoot 2 to 6 boxes of shells in a day. Our duck safaris are based out of Homer as well as Kodiak.
Our Homer hunts take you into the many bays and lagoons of beautiful Kachemak bay. We depart the Homer harbor in the morning and hunt until lunch time, (no set time), which we eat aboard our heated boat. After a hearty lunch and all chills have disappeared, we hunt into the evening and return to Homer for the night. These hunts are great for 1 day trips or can be extended for many days. Lodging is shore based within our lodging facilities. For meals, other than lunch aboard our vessel, we recommend you try one of the many restaurants in town.
Our Kodiak Island duck hunts are 5 to 7 day safaris. This safari puts you into areas abundant with waterfowl with little to no hunting pressure. We depart the Kodiak harbor the morning of your first day after breakfast aboard the boat. Travel time is usually 2 to 4 hrs., depending upon our destination. All meals will be provided aboard the main vessel. Upon arrival of our first destination, our skiff is launched as you prepare to hunt the remainder of the day or until you wish to return to the boat. Each day brings us to new bays and lagoons to explore, locating more and more flocks of ducks to hunt.
