Calvin & Coyle Nature Trail

The Calvin 8r Coyle trailhead is located at 1.1 mile East End Road at the end of Mariner Drive. In 1991, KHLT received ten acres of excellent wildlife habitat near the Beluga wetlands. On this property, now known as Calvin & Coyle Woodland Park, we built a short trail with guideposts highlighting its natural features including an active eagle nest, nursery logs, and many varieties of mosses, plants and lichens. Trail guides are available at the KHLT office on W. Bunnell. At the mid-point of the trail, a raised platform with benches allows a view out across the Homer Airport Critical Habitat Area, favored by moose as a winter browsing area. In 1997, we were given 18 acres between Calvin & Coyle Woodland Park and Paul Banks Elementary School, which allowed us to connect our trail to the school's nature trail and provide additional access from the Paul Banks parking lot.
