Updated frequently in Spring and as new information is available in other seasons. Maintained by Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge.The Central Peninsula Birding Hotline's number is 262-2300. It is maintained by the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival - Premier birding festival in Alaska. Birds galore, workshops and presentations for beginners and experts alike, family activities, craft fair, Wooden Boat Festival, and special birding cruises: Either first or second weekend in May every year, timed to hit the peak of migration. Don't miss it!

Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network International organization dedicated to preserving critical shorebird habitats all along the migration corridors. Kachemak Bay/Fox River Flats has been designated a site of "international significance".

Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge - Homer is headquarters to the largest wildlife refuge in the nation, covering most of the seabird rookeries in the State. Facilities include an excellent visitor center. (907) 235-6961.

Kachemak Bay State Park and State Wilderness Park - This State Park covers most of the area on the south side of Kachemak Bay and includes many excellent trails which will allow birders to cover habitats from coastal rainforest up to alpine tundra. Website includes all the information you need to plan a trip and logistics. (907) 235-7024

Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research and Reserve - Research and outreach organization dedicated to the study and preservation of Kachemak Bay. Includes data on bird habitat. (907) 235-4799

Pratt Museum - Nationally accredited local museum with an emphasis on natural history and art. A nice nature trail. Innovative exhibits and educational programs have earned the Pratt kudos from around the country. A "must see" for all visitors. (907) 235-8635

Kachemak Heritage Land Trust - Acquires long-term easements on critical habitat for wildlife preservation. Maintains the Calvin and Coyle Trail. (907) 235-5263

Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies - Operates natural history tours and educational programs from their field station on the south side of Kachemak Bay (including a boat tour of Gull Island), and the Wynn Nature Center on Skyline Drive.

Shorebird Sister Schools Project - Started by volunteers in Homer in 1994, this web project links researchers and school children along the Pacific flyway for the study and protection of shorebirds internationally. We are all links in the chain...
