Kachemak Bay, Homer

Homer spit
Homer, Alaska, is a community of 4500 people nestled on the shore of Kachemak Bay at the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula. There are several 45 minute commuter flights daily from Anchorage or you may choose to drive the 220 miles and enjoy some of Alaska's spectacular scenery on your way south to Homer.
The opportunity to catch halibut and 3 different species of salmon (kings, silvers, and pinks) amidst a setting of snowcapped mountains makes Homer a fisherman's paradise. Sea otters, sealions, and bald eagles, along with a wide variety of seabirds are often seen. Those keeping a sharp lookout will occasionally see a whale. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars.
